A Halloween t-shirt for bourbon lovers that you can certainly wear year-round.

Maybe we've solved your Halloween costume problem. Trick or treating, in style. One of our customers said:

"Costume decided! I'll be wearing this tee, a skull mask, and bringing a bottle of my favorite whiskey to the afterparty."

But it's really a t-shirt you can wear everyday -- and night

This mystical company -- with a well-dressed skull for a mascot --  conjures up spirits of this world and other-worldly places, with a particular preference for the distilled kind.

"Distilled spirits, get it?" our buddy Jack laughed.

"Yep, we got it it through our thick skull!"

"Good one too!" Jack said.

A rich history of tall tales and tasty pours

Bourbon is American's whiskey. Its history is filled with myth, legend,  and as one might definitely say, Skulduggery. Just as the whiskey ages, in charred new oak barrels, soaking up the vanillas and caramels of the staves, so too our favorite pours are steeped in lore, real and imagined, with no shortage of tall tales.

Pappy Van Winkle, Albert Blanton, Elijah Craig, Evan Williams, Basil Hayden, W.L. Weller -- all with stories to tell. It was Edmund Taylor who championed the 1987 Bottled In Bond Act, which essentially made Uncle Sam the guarantor of the whiskey in the bottle, regardless of the tall tales.

The history, um,  etymology, of skulduggery

Skulduggery sounds like it oughta be about something like digging for skulls, of the kind of thing that goes on in Edgar Allen Poe stories.

But actually skulduggery has its origins in another whisky land (notice the different spelling) -- Scotland. It entered the English language in the 19th century as an alteration of the Scottish word, sculduddery, meaning "bawdry, obscenity."

Instead of Edgar Allen Poe, the Oxford English Dicitionary gives credit to William Faulkner, for the "back-formed verb": "to skuldug" -- “From Minnesota had been imported the mysterious term ‘scull-duggery’, used to signify political or other trickery.” Hocus-pocus, hanky-panky, jiggery-pokery." (nancyfriedman.typepad.com).

From etymology back to whiskey

We've come back full-circle because William Faulkner drank whiskey. He said:

"There is no such thing as bad whiskey. Some whiskeys just happen to be better than others."

With all this history, coincidence, and skulduggery; myths, legends of spirits, distilled or otherwise, you'd think Colonel Bourbon created this bourbon t-shirt with the finesse of scientific and artistic wisdom. Alas, we just think it's a cool tee that you will enjoy for a long time to come.
