If you Google "bears," the first hit, at least in America, is likely to be the Chicago Bears, for better or for worse. You be the judge. The second hit are the other bears and their Wikipedia page. Not counting the Chicago Bears, there are only eight species of bears left, not extinct. If you count Chicago, it's nine species. The eight are:

• Americas Black Bear
• Brown Bear
• Giant Panda
• Asian Bear
• Sloth Bear
• Spectacled Bear
• Sun Bear
• Polar Bear  

Most of the bears are omnivorous, which means they feed on both plant and animals. The polar bear, the largest of the species is carnivorous, meat eaters. Seals make up most of their diet. Pandas, those lovable lugs, feast on bamboo.

Bears in Kentucky

The black bear population almost died out in the commonwealth but have since made a comeback, particularly in the Black Mountain, Cumberland and Pine areas.

"During the spring and summer months, bears in the Southern Appalachians feed primarily on grasses and fruit, such blackberries, blueberries, and huckleberries, and bourbon. In the fall, a diet of hard mast composed of acorns and beechnuts, and cider or a good rye..."

Solitary creatures

Like a whiskey drinker, bears are mostly solitary creatures. With the exception of mating with a fellow soul along the way, or a mother taking care of her youngsters, (or football season in the case of one species), they are destined to wander by themselves, so many dens, caves, and saloons a stop along the way.
