This t-shirt celebrates America's whiskey, bourbon, in several ways.

The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), a bird of prey in North America;  the national bird of the USA. It is not really bald; it is white-headed. In the 20th century, the majestic bird was on the brink of extinction. In 2007 it was removed from the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife. It is estimated there are now over 300,000 in the continental US (huge population in Alaska!)

Their lifespan is 20-30 years in the wild

They build massive nests; some nests can weigh up to 2,000 pounds

Some other facts about our Eagles:

• Bottled in bond -- "a label for an American-made distilled beverage that has been aged and bottled according to a set of legal regulations contained in the United States government's Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits  as originally laid out in the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897... To be labeled bottled in bond, the whiskey must be: The product of one season from one distiller at one distillery. It must be aged in a federally-bonded warehouse for at least four years; at 100 (US) proof.

So wearing this tee says a lot of things. In 1964, Congress declared bourbon to be a product of the United States. Just like Champagne, which has to come from the Champagne region in France, in international trade, bourbon must come from America.

Here are the rules that make it bourbon.

• Must be made in the USA. per Congress in 1964. It doesn't have to be made in Kentucky, contrary to popular wisdom, but it has to be in the US.
• Has to be aged in new charred white oak barrels. This is what gives the whiskey its delicious flavors.
• At least 51% corn
• Not higher than 160 proof. The higher the proof, the more the flavors are removed. (Think of vodka at 190; no flavor.)
• 125 proof into the barrel
• 80 proof or higher into a glass bottle
• Genuine, no additives or flavors.
